Hi I’m Alan! I studied biochemistry at Uni with the aim to become a doctor or brain surgeon, but somehow ended up in the logistics world for 35 years - I am still trying to work out how! I am brilliant at spreadsheets and am told I can write extremely well! But, my hands are not made for lifting carrying or fixing stuff - The Home Shapers have therefore recruited me to keep the finances in check and contribute articles on what’s going on in the world of home shaping.

My real passion in life (apart from my lovely wife!) is birdwatching and I travel far and wide around the UK and the world in search of the rarest birds. This interest was inspired by my Scottish grandmother, who introduced me aged eight. When I am not walking the Cornish coast looking for rare species, you will find me on the golf course, or challenging Sue for extreme overuse of commas!
